Learn to Curl

The Dakota Curling Club is well known for its great instructional programs. Come take a two-hour Learn to Curl class, or sign up for one of our 5 week Instructional Leagues for a mixture of instruction and game play.

Ways to Volunteer

At the Dakota Curling Club we run on volunteer help. As a non-profit organization, our grass-roots culture helps members feel connected and develops a sense of ownership. If every member volunteered only one hour a month we'd have more than enough help! Find out how you can hlep by volunteering by clicking the button below.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Dakota Curling Clubs runs three 8 week sessions per year: Fall, Winter, Spring.  Most leagues charge $240 per 12 week session and you can choose to curl in one, two, or all three sessions.  In addition, most leagues require you to join the club as a member, which costs $85 per year.  Visit our members page for more details on league structure and league dues.

At the beginning of each session, the Dakota Curling Club offers single-session Learn To Curl classes. If you are new to curling and NOT registered for an Instructional League, you should register for one of these classes. If you are unable to attend a Learn to Curl class before your league starts, register for the league anyway and just show up for your first game 30 minutes early.  There are plenty of experienced curlers around who will show you the basics and get you curling right away.  We recommend you take a Learn To Curl class the next time they are offered.

The Dakota Curling Club also offers Instructional Leagues in which the first session is a Learn to Curl class and the remaining sessions are 20 minutes of instruction on a specific topic followed by a 6-end league game.  Instructors are available on the ice during each game to give tips and advice in the context of game play.  These leagues are an excellent opportunity to build skills and become competent at the game quickly.

No!  You can register as an individual or a couple and we will attempt to place you on a team.

We do occasionally schedule open houses and open ice sessions where you can come by and try it out.

During leagues, typically all sheets are occupied with scheduled games, but if any are open, you are welcome to give it a try. Our online calendar shows when we have leagues, practice sessions, and other events scheduled.

The Dakota Curling Club has everything you need to curl. To curl, you need only a broom and a slider (which is a teflon surface that fits over the sole of one shoe.) You're welcome to purchase your own equipment, but this is not required. We periodically have an equipment vendor set up a pro shop at the club.

Games are made up of eight ends and usually take approximately 2 hours to play.  Our game slots are limited strictly to 2 hours each and teams should play quickly in order to complete all 8 ends.

Yes, absolutely!  The Dakota Curling Club offers a youth program several times a year for kids ages 6-13. Activities and game play are adapted to the age and skill level of the kids during this program.

Students in grades 7-12 who are in the Lakeville School District may also be interested in playing for the Lakeville High School Curling team, which is an official school sport in the Lakeville District. The HS Curling Team practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5:30 pm and meets for skill development clinics and competition several weekends a month.

Evening leagues at the Dakota Curling Club are currently all adult leagues.  Youth ages 13 and older may play in adult leagues as long as they are on a team with at least one other family member over 21. Teams made up of all juniors may register for adult leagues with the permission of the League Manager.

The Dakota Curling Club runs leagues five nights a week October - May at our dedicated facility in historic downtown Lakeville. We welcome spectators for any game - check our online calendar for days and times when leagues are running.

If you'd like to play as a sub-only, you should join the club as a regular adult member at the rate of $60 per year.  Adult members who are not part of a league are entitled to sub up to twelve times per year.  If you wish to sub more than 12 times in a year, you should pay the regular league fee of $150 per 8 week session.

Non-members may only participate in league play two times before they are expected to join the club as members.

Social memberships are available for $60 annually.  Social memberships do not entitle you to register for a league, but do grant you USCA membership and voting privileges. Social members are also entitled to sub up to six games per year. Please click here for more details on the various membership categories available.
